Description

Press release from the City of University Place: July 2, 2020 University Place businesses negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic may be eligible for grants in varying amounts as part of federal CARES Act relief funds the City will receive from the State of Washington. At its June 1 meeting, the City Council directed staff to work with Council and members of the City's Economic Development Advisory Commission to establish criteria for a grant program. Based on that effort, City Manager Steve Sugg and staff will present a resolution to the City Council on July 6 to share information on the program specifics and to formally adopt the funding. Pending Council approval, staff will initiate the grant process with a goal to distribute the funds by July 29. To ensure that every business has an opportunity to participate, the Economic Development Department is sending postcards to 1,600 U.P. business addresses with these details and reminders to visit the City's website for updates. After the July 6 City Council meeting, there will be a dedicated Business Relief Program link on the website that will direct business owners to the actual grant application. The website will be updated regularly, but there will be a limited application window. Please direct any additional questions to Becky Metcalf in the City's Economic Development Department at 253.460.5442. This press release was produced by the City of University Place.
