Cathy Ponton King Band Will Perform At 'Women Rock' Concert

VIENNA — To kick off the town's "19th Amendment Week," the Cathy Ponton King Band will perform at a concert titled "Women Rock" on the Town Green on July 10. King, a rhythm & blues singer and guitar player, is a longtime veteran of the local R&B scene, according to her website. The concert marks her first performance since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and Curtis Pope, who King refers to as "R&B royalty," will perform at it as well. The concert is free to attend and will begin at 6:30 p.m., according to the Vienna Business Association website. During her performance, King may recite the 19th Amendment – which granted women the right to vote – and will likely speak to its importance, said Peggy James, executive director of the Vienna Business Association. The association is one of the sponsors of the event, which is being presented by Caffe Amouri, James said. Other sponsors are Bards Alley Bookshop, McCabe's Printing Group and M&T Bank. "It will be a really great concert that will celebrate women's right to vote," James said. "Bring chairs, blankets and dancing shoes, and come out and help us celebrate the 19th Amendment." Vienna's "19th Amendment Week" will be the final week of its first annual "Liberty Amendments Month," a monthlong event celebrating the passages of the 13th, 14th, 15th and 19th amendments to the Constitution of the United States, James said. The town has spent one week marking each amendment. Its celebrations have included an exhibit at the Freeman House, flash card quizzes throughout town, a biking tour, and more, James said. At least 25 organizations throughout Vienna have taken part, James said. "I am so excited to see people getting out and celebrating things, such as the Liberty Amendments Month," James said. "I'm happy that we can be in-person to celebrate our liberties, celebrate our nation and our town."
