A multidisciplinary artistic experience that offers inspiration, as well as promotes hope and healing Second Fridays is back...at The Silk Tent! Karen Smith of Sistahs Laying Down Hands and Debra Powell-Wright of Philly Jawns is bringing an indoor/outdoor cultural experience to Lancaster Avenue every month this summer. Community members are invited to take a trip inside The Learning Tree for activities including percussion, poetry, dance and crafts that speak to the theme of “Heartbeat & Healing". Stop by or bring a chair and stay awhile to vibe with the healing energy of Sistahs Laying Down Hands. The Learning Tree is one of 5, Everyday Places Artist Partnerships, a 6-month series of creative community projects presented by social impact artists in collaboration with neighborhood businesses/organizations in West Philly. ABOUT EVERYDAY PLACES ARTIST PARTNERSHIPS Barnes West, a partnership between the Barnes Foundation and LoLa 38, developed Everyday Places Artist Partnerships to provide West Philadelphia residents with spaces to engage with creative projects that offer inspiration and promote ​hope and healing. Social impact artists have partnered with neighborhood businesses and sites to build interactive, participatory projects that engage both the site and local residents.
