Description

EAST HAVEN, CT — A tanker truck fire on Interstate 95 northbound near the East Haven exit 52 has closed the highway, state police reported. No injuries are reported, but all traffic is being diverted off of the Frontage Road exit 51. East Haven Fire Department Chief Matt Marcarelli told Patch that the call came in at 9:12 a.m. for a truck tire fire that ended up extending to the tank, which he said, thankfully was empty but still "under pressure." Marcarelli said that firefighters could see "smoke from the fire station and on arrival found a heavily involved haz-mat vac truck that sustained a tire failure that caught fire extending to the tank which was empty but earlier off-loaded waste oil." He said there was no spill and no danger to the public. While the highway was shut down, it took East Haven firefighters got right to work. Marcarelli said no one, including firefighters, were hurt. He added that both Branford and North Branford fire departments were called for mutual aid, for water largely. #CTtraffic I95 NB in the area of Ex 52 is is closed due to a tanker truck that caught on fire.
