DUPAGE COUNTY, IL — The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced Thursday that lanes that have been closed for construction will reopen, wherever possible, for the Fourth of July weekend to facilitate the flow of traffic.
According to a news release from the Illinois Department of Transportation, non-emergency closures will be suspended from 3 p.m. Friday, to 11:59 p.m. Monday.
The following lane closures will remain in place in DuPage County, as part of ongoing work zones during the holiday weekend, according to the release:
55th Street from Dunham Road to Clarendon Hills Road in Downers Grove, Westmont and Clarendon Hills York Road at Roosevelt Road in Elmhurst Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through these areas. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and stay alert for workers and equipment, the release states.
According to the release, over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve more than 3,300 miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck as part of the Rebuild Illinois capital program, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Year one included approximately $2.7 billion of improvements statewide on 1,706 miles of highway, 128 bridges and 228 additional safety improvements, the release states.
