JOLIET, IL — A 24-year-old Joliet man was arrested late Wednesday night by Joliet police after officers say Thomas Signorelli attacked his female passenger and nearly choked her into unconsciousness while inside his vehicle.
The bleeding woman was taken by ambulance to the Joliet hospital for treatment of her injuries, according to police.
Signorelli was booked into the Will County Jail on charges of aggravated domestic battery. The incident that led Signorelli's arrest happened around 10:40 p.m. when a patrol officer in the area of East Jefferson and Michigan Streets spotted a traffic violation and had the driver pull over.
Signorelli was the driver, and his passenger was bleeding and upset, police said.
"Further investigation determined that Signorelli had battered the female passenger, his girlfriend. Officers also learned that Signorelli had choked the victim to the point of nearly losing consciousness," Joliet police said.
Will County jail records indicate that Signorelli, who lives in the 1200 block of Oakland Avenue, was released from custody around 7 p.m. Thursday after posting 10 percent of his $5,000 bail.
