GENEVA, IL — Officials announced Thursday that Kane County has exceeded the United State's goal of having 70 percent of adults vaccinated against COVID-19 by July 4. While the entire country is unlikely to reach this goal, AP reports, Kane County Health Department estimates about 71.9 percent of adult residents in the area have had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 54.9 percent of Kane County's 18 and over population is fully vaccinated. "We are so proud of the efforts of our community partners, staff and volunteers for surpassing this goal," said KCHD Interim Executive Director Kathy Fosser. But Fosser warned residents against thinking they could let their guard down completely, referencing growing cases of the delta variant. "We are not out of the woods yet," she said. "With the new variants that seem to be more transmissible than the original strain, it is vital that we continue to increase our vaccination rate." KCHD closed their mass vaccination location in Aurora a few weeks ago but will continue to operate the KaneVax Hub location in Batavia. Officials also said they would offer community-based vaccine clinics upon request.
