BERKELEY, CA — A Berkeley pedestrian safety sting earlier this week resulted in officers issuing 39 citations, police said. The Traffic Division conducted the enforcement operation Wednesday morning in the area of Sacramento and Virginia streets. The operation focused on vehicles failing to yield to pedestrians in the area according to police. This enforcement was conducted as a result of complaints from the community as well as several recent collisions that have occurred in the area. This operation resulted in 40 traffic enforcement stops; 39 traffic citations were written for a total of 45 California Vehicle Code Violations and towed vehicles. The violations included but were not limited to; pedestrian right of way, being on your cellphone while driving, driving on a suspended license and being an unlicensed driver. Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
