GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — The latest Georgian to be arrested for charges related to the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol was caught, in part, because of the selfies he posted to Facebook. Jonathan David Laurens, 38, of Duluth was arrested Wednesday in Gwinnett County by the FBI, according to an announcement from the agency. He is believed to be at least the 15th person from Georgia arrested in connection with the insurrection. While some Georgians are facing felony charges, Laurens has been charged only with misdemeanors such as disorderly conduct. That matches Laurens' take on what happened to him on Jan. 6, which according to multiple media outlets, he posted openly on Facebook. "A few bad apples were trying to break windows and kick on doors, but most of us put that sh*t to bed real fast," Laurens posted to Facebook, as reported by WXIA-TV in Atlanta. "We weren't there to tear sh*t up, just disrupt the system. All in all, I had fun! Lol." In addition to being the 15th Georgian arrested, Laurens is also the second from Gwinnett County to be arrested. In February, Verden Nalley of Buford was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including violent entry and disorderly conduct. A pretrial motions hearing for Nalley, who pleaded not guilty, is scheduled for next Thursday.
