Bandmates and Collaborators Wanted

Meets

SE Divison, Portland OR

Description

I'm a bass player seeking other musicians to collaborate with and/or form a band. I also play guitar pretty good, and I can play bass lines on my keyboards. I have amassed some recording gear over the quarantine, and I am eager to give it a go. I am looking for singers, guitarists, keyboardists, a drummer or any interesting instrumentalists to build some songs. I would love to hear some samples of your work. I will, of course, reciprocate. My last band got a review that compared us to Comet Control and Dead Meadow, and another that described us as Desert Blues and compared us to All Them Witches. I thought we sounded like Proto Metal and Hard Psych. We did mostly originals, but we also covered The Stooges and early Pink Floyd and Sabbath when we played live. We played shows in the Puget Sound area and headlined Dantes, Dig A Pony, Turn Turn Turn, Bunk Bar, The High Water Mark and No Fun here in Portland. That project lost members during the pandemic (they didn't die, they just had life changes that took them different places and directions). During the latter part of the pandemic we recorded our second album and the label is set to release it in a couple months, but that band is on hold as far as playing live. I like rock music with intensity and drama, so what I create has those characteristics. I am not set on any genre for this project, rather I am looking to establish some connections with people before determining a direction. You should be someone that loves to create music and is not looking to get paid enough to live on in doing so. You don't have to be Shreddy Kruger on your guitar (in fact it is probably better if you are not) but please be a person with proficiency regarding your instrument. I have a rehearsal room with a PA and drums and amps, so if we get together you don't need to bring any big heavy stuff. I have been a Portland musician for decades. I am married and have kids, and a job that is pretty flexible schedule wise. I have played in Punk bands, a New Wave band, a cover band with a hand drummer and a flute as the solo lead instrument, hippie jam bands, a Post Rock band - so a wide array of styles. I don't necessarily want to reproduce any of those things. I want to play rock music. I am reluctant to define it further since it doesn't exist yet. I have a drum machine which we can use to keep time until we find a human drummer. If you are a human drummer, we can skip that part. Maybe we would just keep the drum machine, which would be a first for me in a band. My favorite thing is playing live with other humans, but I envision some individual recording happening, too. It would be super swell to get a set of songs together and play them live. Eventually, playing in Olympia, Eugene, Seattle, the Bay Area and Southern California would be an excellent dream come true. I have a dear friend that does music licensing in LA, and while it is always a long shot getting a song sold, that is a goal, as well. Please write back and tell me about yourself. For instance: A. The last 5 things you listened to. B. Why The Small Faces are one of the most underrated 60's British bands. C. Your perfect band situation. D. The band situation you would not want to be in. E. Your favorite effect pedals (and combinations thereof). F. Gated reverb: cool or awful on a snare? G. Sleep or Fuzz? Let's start a conversation and see where it goes. Please send links to audio and video of you singing and playing. I am moving to a little bit bigger rehearsal room mid July, so my goal is to spend the next couple weeks conversing with people, then meeting up. If this sounds at all cool I would love to hear from you! Maybe we will write the 21st Century's Bohemian Rhapsody together. Maybe my future band will open for your future band on a West Coast tour. We will never know unless you reply!!!
