Apply online at Schedule:* 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday Mandatory staff meetings once per month *Schedule and work location may change based on the needs of the Library Starting monthly salary: $3,275.94 PURPOSE OF POSITION This position creates a positive library experience by providing effective maintenance and custodial services to all District facilities. This position is responsible for performing a variety of building maintenance tasks as well as completing scheduled recurring activities. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Responds to routine action requests for minor maintenance and emergency repairs, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, concrete, tile and other general building repairs. Moves and arranges furniture and equipment and sets-up rooms for meetings, special functions and other facilities-related projects. Maintains equipment used in the course of work. Ensures that contracted vendors are complying with agreed upon scope of work and reports any issues of non-compliance to your supervisor. When work requires a licensed trade to complete, meets with contractors to present desired scope of work in order to receive bids that conform to our public procurement processes. Maintains landscaped areas as directed and/or as needed. Ensures walkways and landscaped areas are clear of leaves, debris and snow. Applies appropriate de-icing and traction materials where needed to ensure the safety of employees, patrons, and visitors in winter months. Performs special custodial work upon the request of staff members and supervisor. Reports safety, sanitary, fire hazards and needed maintenance/security repairs to supervisor or other management staff in the absence of the supervisor. Utilizes proper safety precautions related to all work performed. Maintains positive relations with the staff, the public, and volunteers. Works effectively and with minimal supervision when necessary. Performs other tasks as assigned. SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS Participates actively in weekly and/or monthly meetings and assigned projects. Participates on committees and project/action teams as directed by manager or supervisor. Develops and implements initiatives in support of planning; coordinates project work with others. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications EDUCATIONAL AND KNOWLEDGE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and an emergent overall skill level consisting of two or more years of full-time experience working in a general maintenance or repair position using various carpentry, painting, and mechanical tools in support of residential or commercial buildings. Requires demonstrated success working with minimal supervision and in a team setting. This position requires the following skills and abilities to be successful: Basic methods, techniques and tools used in facility and landscape maintenance; uses and purposes of general maintenance tools and equipment. Custodial and basic building maintenance techniques. Safe work practices. Ability to identify and work with some hazardous materials and use proper handling procedures. Customer service techniques to handle a variety of customer/staff interactions. Communicates clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; understands and follows oral and written directions. Effective problem-solving skills. Interpersonal skills to promote teamwork. Ability to encourage and support inclusiveness and equity. Knowledge of computers, related equipment, internet and fundamental research, and commonly used office software to perform data entry and to create original documents, save, and open/review/edit existing documents. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/LICENSES Current driver’s license and vehicle insurance, valid in the State of Oregon, are required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION Physical activities required by the work include continuous standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, grasping, keyboarding, and speaking and hearing. The job requires frequent repetitive hand/wrist motions. Use appropriate moving and support equipment, the position requires continuous pushing and pulling up to 100 pounds and lifting and carrying up to 80 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS This position has a work environment that frequently requires moderate physical effort and manual labor such as carrying, constant movement, frequent lifting of light to moderately heavy items. Uses hand and/or power tools intermittently. Conditions may consist of the following: Operates District vehicles safely. Work is performed indoors and outdoors in all seasons. Performs routine building and landscape maintenance. Uses a variety of custodial, building and grounds maintenance equipment, supplies and materials. Willingness to work evenings and weekends and to work a schedule, which meets the needs of the department. Reading for comprehension and direction (policies & procedures). Ability to encourage and support diversity, inclusiveness and equity. Handles multiple tasks effectively and efficiently in high volume environment that may require repetitive tasks. Speaks and listens effectively so that others understand and in order to maintain effective relationships and to convey instructions and/or direction. Vehicle will be provided, but may need to use own vehicle in certain situations. INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS The position requires frequent contact with non-employees concerning routine and widely varied information often related to use of technology. Contacts are made with public and staff members and contacts frequently contain confidential/sensitive information necessitating discretion at all times. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position maintains their own work with review and direction. Supervision is not normally a responsibility of positions in this classification Decisions are made within broad interpretation of applicable guidelines and Library policies and rules.
