University of Idaho Journeyman Painter Location: Moscow Division/College: Facilities Management Employee Category: Classified Pay Range: $16.84 or higher depending on experience and education Full/Part Time: Full Time Position Summary: Under the general direction of the Interiors Shop Foreperson, the incumbent of this position maintains and improves facilities throughout campus independently performing journey-level preparation and painting of all interior and exterior building components, furniture and floors. Specific responsibilities include: repairing and refinishing interior building surfaces; providing glass replacement and new installation services; safely applying varied finishes and paints to items using spray booth and related equipment; preserving exterior surfaces; maintaining positive communications with campus community and co-workers; working with Environmental Health and Safety personnel to identify and abate lead paint from campus buildings; and contributing to the team effort. Minimum Qualifications: - Two years experience performing as a journey level painter determining suitable paint and stain products to use in various applications; preparing and finishing drywall and plaster surfaces and applying painting products; using and maintaining tools and equipment associated with painting; mixing, matching and color coordinating paints and stains; and reading and interpreting blueprints and specifications. - Experience with: painting equipment, materials and techniques used to apply paint, stain, varnish and similar products; and safety techniques commonly used in the painting trade. - Experience with drywall taping and finishing to paint ready. Preferred Qualifications: - Certification as a Lead-based Paint Professional. - Knowledge of and experience performing glazier work. - Experience using computer software and applications for word processing and email. Physical Requirements & Working Conditions: Physical ability to: lift and/or otherwise move or carry items weighing approximately 90 pounds; work on and from scaffolding; climb and work from ladders; and bend, stoop and lift. Must have the ability to wear personal protective gear, participate in a medical surveillance program and be fit-test for a respirator.
