Porter/Bag Handler - EWR Newark Liberty Airport - Part Time **multiple positions available** Approx 20 hours a week - evening shift (6pm - 12am) Hours may fluctuate, as well as possible morning shift added in near future Availability must include weekends and holidays $16.20 per hour to start COMPANY BACKGROUND Smarte Carte, Inc. is the leading concessionaire of self-serve vended luggage carts, electronic lockers, commercial strollers and massage chairs, as well as other passenger and guest services. Smarte Carte is headquartered in St. Paul, MN and has operations in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Sweden, and Singapore. BASIC JOB FUNCTION Provide superior, friendly and personalized service to passengers at the departures and arrival levels. All porters will also be cross trained as Bag Handlers and Cart Associates, and be required to assist in keeping the airport free of loose carts and units replenished when not providing porter service. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Assist/escort passengers to airline counter or to the pickup areas. Handle passengers luggage and odd size bags making sure they are loaded/unloaded properly. Attend bags at the belt behind airline counters or at carousel; ensure bags are placed in the correct position, avoiding jams. Collaborate with airline staff to clear the carousel of all bags that have not been claimed. Work directly with porters and transporting checked bags onto the airport bag belt. Check airport monitors to ensure flight is on time and/or delayed. Follow airport security regulations; display required security badge. Provide exceptional customer service and greet passengers in a welcoming and friendly manner. Maintain communications with operations and management team. Assist our business partners in creating an excellent image of their business as our own. Assume Cart Associate responsibilities between Porter/Bag Handling assignments. Additional duties as assigned by management. QUALIFICATIONS Must be at least 18 years of age Excellent customer service skills and verbal communication skills PHYSICIAL REQURIEMENTS Lift and carry 50 lbs Push and pull 75 -100 pounds to move up to 15 carts simultaneously Walk and stand for duration of shift Work in seasonal weather conditions out of doors CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES Airport Badge is required Skills Required Communication Customer Service Preferred Conflict Resolution Cleaning Behaviors Required Dedicated: Devoted to a task or purpose with loyalty or integrity Team Player: Works well as a member of a group Preferred Enthusiastic: Shows intense and eager enjoyment and interest
