WAYLAND, MA — As of Thursday, the Wayland Free Public Library essentially returned to its pre-pandemic state. The upstairs, downstairs and children's area were all open. The library is on its usual summer schedule, however: Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturday 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The only thing that's not open yet at the library is the meeting room. Here's what is going on at the Wayland library this week: 10 Essentials for HikingCalling all hikers, especially newbies! Do you know the 10 essentials that should be in yourbackpack at all times to keep yourself safe on the trails? Even for a day hike, we have to beprepared and ready, especially for emergencies. Join this fun, hands-on talk with Nancy Windabout packing for your next day hike. In 2015, Nancy founded Peaks and Poses Trail Yoga tocombine her love for yoga and the outdoors. Register for her talk through our Events menu.Monday, July 12 at 7 p.m. Adult Craft: Agate Painting Create a beautiful watercolor painting of an agate slice with Lisa Walker of the Pop Up ArtSchool. The technique of wet-on-wet watercolor and salt on wet watercolor paint is easy to learnand fun to do, resulting in a striking piece of art. Sign up for the Zoom link and select a curbsidekit pick-up time. Limit 15 people. Tuesday, July 17 at 7 p.m. Where Are My Holds?That depends: if you want to continue picking them up curbside, simply schedule a time throughthe email link or call us, as you've been doing (same-day reservations have been discontinued).Otherwise, we've restored the holds to their usual corner by the stairs when you come up to themain floor. Once you find your hold, you can check it out yourself or we'd be happy to do it foryou. Mystery solved! Your Stories: COVID-19 in WaylandFacts and figures will be recorded, but our personal stories will give future historians andWayland citizens a better sense of what life was like during the pandemic. YOUTH SERVICES - FOR BABIES, TODDLERS AND PRESCHOOLERS*Outdoor Storytimes with Ms. Carly Join Ms. Carly for an outdoor storytime! Children and their caregivers will listen to stories, singsongs, and perform fun rhymes and movements. We will meet on the green lawn behind thelibrary. For babies through preschool age children, with caregivers. Registration required. Facemasks are required for children ages 2+. We encourage attendees to bring along a picnic blanketor a lawn chair. Each participant will make apoppy seed tart dough and fill with local blueberries, to make mini hand-pies. To finish the minipies off, we will whip some cream and add a dab to each mini hand-pie! We will be bringing you a blend of virtual and in-person (outside) activitiesfeaturing animals, real and imaginary. Highlights include virtual zookeeper chats withButtonwood Park Zoo and Roger Williams Park Zoo, and a virtual bug show with Joy Marzolf ofThe Joys of Nature. We will also offer in-person outdoor STEM and craft programs, scavengerhunts, and weekly take and make crafts. Children will keep track of their reading online or onpaper logs and will earn virtual badges for time reading, for attending programs, and forcompleting fun craft and STEM challenges.
