Professionals working with youth will appreciate this workshop to identify ACEs in youth and facilitate best practices. The Council is partnering with the Indiana ACEs Coalition to host an in-depth presentation discussing the neurobiology of trauma and the effect of ACEs on child development, the original ACEs study and the findings building resilience in children/youth, increasing community capacity and how it is relevant to our community. Many policy leaders and preventionists, especially in school-based settings use the ACEs scores as an individual-level screening or diagnostic tool to guide decisions about need or eligibility for services. The use of ACE scores, thresholds, cut points, or ranges in this way is not recommended for a vast number of reasons. This workshop will illustrate why this is not a best practice. Experts in prevention with a fully credentialed and degreed staff to organize and facilitate events; prepare research papers; and collect and analyze data relevant to substance use in Porter County.
