JOB FUNCTION: Lead crews in selection department to fill orders. Verify counts and product selection for quality and accuracy. JOB DUTIES:  Oversee Selecting Laborers to choose best quality plants to place in flats (selecting plants can include lifting potted plants up from the greenhouse floor or from tables. During certain times of the year this can include lifting hanging baskets of plants from an overhead support structure and place on trailers to be moved to the staging area.)  Communicate quality and availability issues with Selecting Supervisor.  Check pots for labels and tags or possibly re-label pots or plants (normally done at transplanting but not always)  Assist is planting, maintaining, moving, and spacing plants when needed.  Can assist with watering or other areas during slower times of the year when crew sizes are smaller after layoff.  Transport flatted pots or baskets to staging area. SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Excellent communication skills, both verbal and in writing, in person, and via phone or radio with all levels of staff.  Bilingual (Spanish) preferred, both verbal and written.  Ability to distinguish different plant types QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION:  With proper training, may be asked to drive golf carts that pull the selecting trailers.  Ability to work in a team environment.  Self-motivated  Reliable and punctual PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Work long hours as needed during busy season, including weekends.  Continuously walk, stand, bend, kneel (and remain working below knee-level) as well as reaching overhead, and from side to side for long periods of time.  Work indoors and outdoors, in seasonal temperatures and conditions.  Lift up to 50 pounds in an environment that is often hot.
