This 2-part series will introduce the fundamentals of canning and build the skills you need to safely preserve food at home.
Part 1: Basics of Home Canning ~ 10am to 12pm ~ Friday, July 16th Learn the science and methods behind food preservation. The class will focus on USDA guidelines, food safety & quality, proper canning procedures, equipment, and recipes. A recipe preparation and water bath canning demonstration will be given.
Part 2: Summer Jam Workshop ~ 10am to 12pm ~ Friday, July 23rd In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn about high acid foods and the preservation of fruits with the use of a water bath canner. As part of a small group, you will have the opportunity to prepare a recipe, practice proper techniques of canning, and take home a jar of freshly made fruit jam!
Cost of $20 includes both classes, educational materials, canning demonstration & hands-on workshop, one jar of fruit jam, and goody giveaways.
