Driver Pleads Guilty To Attacking Deputy In Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, CA —A man has pleaded guilty to attacking an Orange County Sheriff's deputy after a Lake Forest crash in January. Jon Michael Williams, 39, was also ordered to participate in a first-offender alcohol program, according to court records. Williams also admitted a felony count of resisting arrest, according to court records. He has been in custody since Jan. 7, was sentenced to time served, records show. He has since been released from the Theo Lacy Facility. A deputy on his way to work in early January, before 5 a.m., spotted a traffic collision at El Toro Road and Portola Parkway. When he stopped to help, Williams refused to remain on the scene or exchange information with the other driver. When the deputy identified himself and advised him he had to remain on scene, deputies said. Williams, who was still in his vehicle, allegedly struck the deputy in the head multiple times -- with his keys in his hand, deputies said. He then drove off but was caught a short distance away, deputies said. The deputy went to a hospital to be examined for minor cuts and bruises. Williams pleaded guilty to one count each of assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury and battery on a peace officer, driving under the influence of a drug, possession of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, hit-and-run with property damage and possession of a switchblade, all misdemeanors.
