ELMHURST, IL — Social media users in Elmhurst are again reporting the lack of mail delivery in town. They say they are going days without service. On Wednesday, one commenter on the Elmhurst, IL News and Comment Facebook page asked whether others were having problems. "It's Wednesday and all I have seen this week are the postal vehicles driving down the street, stopping every few houses and then driving off," one man said. "Our normal carriers who walk from house to house are nowhere to be seen." Dozens responded to his post. Among them, one woman said she had yet to receive mail this week. "A neighbor just went to the post office and was told our mail carrier is on vacation, so we won't get mail while they are on vacation," she said. Another woman wrote, "My parents as of yesterday had not gotten mail since last Thursday. They called and had a conversation with the postmaster and had a truck down their street within an hour, and suddenly they had mail — and they really did have mail. My dad was waiting for something he needed for a meeting yesterday morning, which should have been delivered last week." No one answered the phone at the Elmhurst post office Thursday morning. Postal Service spokesman Timothy Norman said all mail was being delivered from Elmhurst Thursday. "This location has experienced staff shortages and is continuing to use available resources to match the workload, including bringing in extra resources to assist," he said. "We appreciate the patience of our customers and the efforts of employees." Norman gave a similar explanation two weeks ago.
