BURR RIDGE, IL — Burr Ridge trustees this week approved a plan to change the streetscape of the Village Center to create an outdoor dining and entertainment area.
Officials praised the plan.
"This is a pretty good idea and exciting. It brings a new vibe to the place, making it an entertainment district," Mayor Grasso said.
Trustee Tony Schiappa said he was impressed with the Village Center, saying he was glad its owners were investing in the complex.
"I love the idea," he said. "I hope some other (shopping) centers take notice and make investments in their property as well."
"Like maybe across the way?" the mayor asked.
"Something like that," Schiappa responded.
Across the way is County Line Square, with which officials have recently expressed frustration. Members of the Plan Commission say the shopping center has failed to handle parking, which has resulted in a number of tenants getting zoning exceptions from parking requirements.
Officials are talking about making County Line Square a planned unit development, where they could have an overall plan.
At a meeting in early May, John Garber, son of owner Bob Garber, told the Plan Commission that parking was not an issue at all at County Line Square.
John Garber declined to comment further Thursday.
