FAIRFIELD, CT — A Cleveland man wanted by police was taken into custody in June in Connecticut.
Joel Day, 26, from Cleveland, was stopped in Fairfield for a routine traffic violation, police said. Officers then realized there was a warrant for Day's arrest in connection with a probation violation for sexual assault of a minor, police added.
According to police records, on June 6, officers stopped a red Chevrolet with expired temporary plates on Beach Road. Police said the driver repeatedly lied about his name but was eventually identified as Day. A records check revealed the warrant, police said.
Fairfield officers confirmed with the Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Office in Ohio that the warrant was active and extraditable, and arrested Day, who was held on a $250,000 bond, according to police.
As of Wednesday, Day remained in custody in Connecticut, according to court records, which indicated he was scheduled to appear Friday in court.
