DETROIT — The city said it is investigating complaints of brown, rusty water coming from the taps and toilets of homes and businesses in three eastside neighborhoods.
The water has been reported in parts of Cornerstone Village, East English Village and Morningside in District 4, officials said. The Detroit Water and Sewerage Department is currently investigating to uncover the cause which will determine the next steps, officials said.
"The rust color is due to a disruption in the water pipes serving these neighborhoods causing sediment to enter the customer taps," the city said in a statement.
While the investigation is underway, city water officials have advised residents and businesses in the three communities to report rusty water. Do not drink or wash clothes with brown or rusty water, officials added.
Boiling the water will not have an impact, in this case, the city also said. Other neighborhoods have not reported similar issues, officials said.
