Northport Considering Additional $250K For Flood Repairs

NORTHPORT, AL — Damage from flooding on June 19 in Northport is still being addressed as city officials next week will consider setting aside even more funding for necessary repairs under its current state of emergency. The Northport City Council on Tuesday will also mull over numerous emergency resolutions authorizing different contracts for repairs, while the Council will consider an additional allocation of $250,000 from the revenue generated by the city's 1 cent sales tax. "We continue to find additional damage that needs to be repaired," City Administrator Glenda Webb told Patch on Thursday, as city leaders could potentially allocate more funding than the proposed amount on the current agenda. If approved in its current form, the request would bring the total to $1 million that could come out of sale tax revenue and used for immediate repairs. The request comes after the Council on June 21 approved the first $750,000 installment from the city's Northport First Funds. This allows the city to seek reimbursement from the federal government for expenses it has and will continue to incur. Patch perviously reported that the federal reimbursement for the Northport First Funds would could possibly taking months, but once the reimbursement dollars are received, they will be put back into the Northport First fund, all of which will come at no impact to the city's general fund.
