The Springfield Museums has an immediate opening for a Custodial Supervisor who will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing the daily custodial functions in order to maintain the cleanliness and upkeep of assigned buildings through a variety of routine custodial work such as sweeping, mopping, washing, dusting, stripping buffing floors, shoveling snow, along with other similar duties as assigned. This is a hands-on position as a working supervisor. Essential functions of the position include bit are not limited to the following: • Under the supervision of the Director of Facilities, coordinate and oversee the daily custodial functions throughout the Museums’ buildings. • Provide custodial/ janitorial supervision that display effective leadership skills to ensure the timely completion of staff custodial duties • Develop and maintain a check list comprised of daily, weekly, monthly, etc. assigned duties. • Perform weekly inspection of properties to ensure adequate custodial services. Responsible for following-up with custodians regarding issues of substandard performance. • Develop and maintain a custodial supplies inventory. • Train individuals hired as custodial staff. • Participate in the interviewing process of custodial candidates. Provide input to supervisor regarding, performance and general personnel issues regarding custodial staff. • Perform the following duties in the capacity of the “Custodial Floater”: • Sweep and/or vacuum, mop, wax and buff floors; wash, dust and/or polish woodwork, windows, walls, sinks, toilets, or other furniture or fixtures as assigned; remove trash and other items to be trashed. Work from regular cleaning schedule, clipboard, work requests, or verbal instructions. • Maintain area outside building as assigned; shovel snow or spread sand/salt as needed and operate company owed vehicle to plow all Museum owned properties. Weed as necessary, remove debris/leaves or use blower to clean sidewalks. Respond to emergencies such as snow and ice removal, water damage, etc. to ensure adequate safety conditions. • Perform set-ups of chairs, tables, equipment, etc. for routine meetings, classes, or programs. Clean area after meeting, classes or programs. Move/relocate furniture, books, or other objects for special projects such as renovations, using hand trucks or dollies. • Assist with the delivery and removal of exhibits. • Maintain adequate restroom and cleaning supplies, including those to be stored in supply area. Maintaining adequate amount in storage to perform duties. Maintain order and neatness in work areas; detect and report defective equipment or other questionable matters to supervisor. • Perform various tasks as required or requested, such as changing light bulbs; unplugging sinks, toilets, or assisting other staff members as needed. • The incumbent of this position is considered essential personnel. In the event of inclement weather or emergencies the individual filling this position will be required to report to work. • Perform other similar duties as required or requested by supervisor.
