Where You Will Work: Located in Boulder, Colorado, University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) serves and participates in a collaborative community of researchers and educators who are dedicated to understanding the atmosphere -- the air around us -- and the complex processes that make up the Earth system, from the ocean floor to the Sun’s core. UCAR manages the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) on behalf of the National Science Foundation and the university community. What You Will Do: Under general and direct supervision, perform and/or assist others in a wide range of skilled and semi-skilled tasks required to maintain UCAR|NCAR facilities infrastructure and operations. Commercial and semi-industrial work scope includes; groundskeeping, snow removal, equipment operations, and other duties as assigned. After hours on-call duties will apply to this position which include; snow removal duties, infrastructure emergency responder assistance, technical security infrastructure support. Responsibilities: Outdoor Maintenance: - Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment - Train and maintain safety certification for riding and push mowers, edgers, trimmers, chainsaws, skid loaders, sweepers, etc. (Provisioned by employer) - May include CDL training and certification (Provisioned by UCAR) - Mow lawns, pull weeds, water, trim hedges, cut branches, remove trees, pick up trash, etc. - Install, maintain, and repair irrigation systems - Maintain parking lots, walking paths, and landscape features - concrete and asphalt repairs, curbs, pavers, gravel beds, etc. - Materials handling Snow removal assistance - Under direction of the Grounds Lead: - Maintain availability for on-call duty during snow events requiring snow removal - 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift work may apply - Operate and maintain snow removal equipment - Train and maintain safety certification for snowplows, snow blowers, sanders, skid loaders, sweepers, etc. (Provisioned by UCAR) - May include CDL training and certification (Provisioned by UCAR) - Materials handling Carpentry Assistance - Under direction of the Facilities Administrator: - Occasional assist in carpentry maintenance activities as needed - Occasional assist in minor roof repairs - patching and sealing - Materials handling Mechanical assistance - Under direction of the Mechanical Lead (No certifications required): - Occasional assist in HVAC system maintenance as needed - Occasional assist in cooling plant water treatment as needed - Occasional assist in plumbing system maintenance - Materials handling Electrical assistance - Under direction of the Electrical Lead (No certifications required): - Occasional assist in electrical system maintenance - wire pulls, trenching, digging - Materials handling Perform general administrative, safety, and housekeeping duties: - Participate in online or live attendance safety training and skills training - Participate in equipment operator training as needed - Record hours worked, work performed, materials used, problems found, in Facilities Operations Management application (Training provisioned by UCAR) - Follow all UCAR policies and procedures - Maintain a safe, neat and orderly work area at all times - Maintain and safeguard all UCAR assigned tools and equipment What You Need: Education and Years of Experience High School Graduate A minimum of 2 years experience in a facilities maintenance program or commercial landscaping Possession of a valid Colorado Driver’s license and a driving record compliant with UCAR’s liability insurance requirements Desired Possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), or the ability to obtain a CDL within four (4) months of hire date Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Skill and knowledge in commercial landscaping and/or snow removal - Skill and experience using hand tools, power tools, ladders, personal protective equipment, and other tools and equipment common in facilities maintenance work - Ability to work in a safe manner and produce craftsman-like results - Demonstrated skill in understanding and acting on verbal and written instructions - Able to carry fifty (50) lbs. twenty (20) feet - Ability to work on scaffolds and climb ladders up to forty (40) feet - Ability to work on-call during snow fall events (May include shift work) - Willingness and ability to perform shift work to respond to after-hours emergency call in, to work with other crafts and work in environments outside of normal duties as needed - Clearly and concisely communicate information, written or orally, to individuals or groups - Listen and respond appropriately to individuals or groups - Demonstrate an understanding of UCAR safety policies, procedures, and training content to maintain a safe working environment - Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with UCAR staff, by listening, understanding, and courteously responding to reasonable requests - Respond to work requests promptly and attentively within designated timelines and perform work with as little disruption to the workplace as possible Desired - Basic computer skills - Knowledge of Google applications Applicant Notes: - A pre-employment screening is conducted in conjunction with an offer for employment.
