Position Summary: The Tree Trimmer Cuts away dead or excess branches from trees or shrubs to maintain right-of-way for roads, sidewalks, or utilities, or to improve appearance, health, and value of tree. Prune or treat trees or shrubs using chainsaws, pole saw, pruning hooks, sheers, or clippers. May use truck-mounted lifts and operate power tree trimming equipment. Must have Ability to communicate frequently and regularly with appropriate Greenstone Electrical Services personnel to affect successful completion of projects as well as assure customer satisfaction. Daily Job Duties: • Report all incidents or accidents immediately to your crew Lead. • No matter how minor, report all near misses to your crew Leader or Foreman before the end of the workday. • Be a safety role model to promote a safe workplace for all others. • Use safe work practices to prevent incidents and increase work productivity. • Follow all GES Tree surgery safe work practices and policies. • Follow all State and Federal regulations. • Wear personal protective equipment as required. • Stop all unsafe acts and report observed unsafe conditions which may lead to an incident to Lead/Foreman. • Ask for help if you needed to ensure accomplishing task safely. • Attend all Safety training. • Inspect trees to determine if they have diseases or pest problems. • Cut away dead and excess branches from trees, or clear branches around power lines, using climbing equipment or buckets of extended truck booms, and/or chainsaws, hooks, handsaws, shears, and clippers. • Trim, top, and reshape trees to achieve attractive shapes or to remove low-hanging branches. • Climb trees, using climbing hooks and belts, or climb ladders to gain access to work areas. • Trim jagged stumps, using saws or pruning shears. • Apply tar or other protective substances to cut surfaces to seal surfaces, and to protect them from fungi and insects. • Clear sites, streets, and grounds of woody and herbaceous materials, such as tree stumps and fallen trees and limbs. • Operate shredding and chipping equipment, and feed limbs and brush into the machines. • Collect debris and refuse from tree trimming and removal operations into piles, using shovels, rakes or other tools. • Load debris and refuse onto trucks and haul it away for disposal. • Hoist tools and equipment to tree trimmers, and lower branches with ropes or block and tackle. • Remove broken limbs from wires, using hooked extension poles. • Split logs and stack in designated area. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities • Clean, sharpen, and lubricate tools and equipment. • Climb trees, using climbing hooks and belts, or climb ladders to gain access to work areas. • Operate boom trucks, loaders, stump chippers, brush chippers, tractors, power saws, trucks, sprayers, and other equipment and tools. Required Education and Experience · High School Diploma or GED · 1-year Tree Trimming or previous experience preferred; or completion of on-the-job training required. · Ability to learn quickly and to follow instructions accurately · Knowledge of forestry machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance · Valid Driver license, good driving record, and experience driving a truck highly preferred. Physical Demands: • May be exposed to higher-than-average risk of work-related injuries and illnesses from exposure to dangerous working conditions, machinery, and heights. • The physical requirements consist of extended periods of standing, bending, and stooping, turning the head and torso, reaching grasping, bending and flexing the arms, legs, wrists, hands, and fingers. • Prolonged periods climbing and standing on ladders and raised platforms at extreme heights. • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds for extended periods of time. • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to fingers, handle, and feel; and reach with hands and arms. • Multi-limb Coordination -- The ability to coordinate two or more limbs (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting, standing, or lying down. It does not involve performing the activities while the whole body is in motion. • Extent Flexibility -- The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs. • Dynamic Strength -- The ability to exert muscle force repeatedly or continuously over time. This involves muscular endurance and resistance to muscle fatigue. • Manual Dexterity -- The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects. • Static Strength -- The ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift at least 70 lbs, push, pull, or carry objects. • Equipment Selection -- Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
