Eco-Pets: How to Love your Pets and the Environment Too! w/ guest speaker Melissa Bauer with the Pet Sustainability Coalition We love our pets! However, from pet food to pet waste, being a pet owner has a large environmental impact. Do you ever wonder about the "biodegradable" waste bags or what other options are out there for more sustainable toys and pet food? Then this event is perfect for you! On Sunday, July 25, grab your furry friend and join us on the patio at BrewAbility to learn about sustainable pet options from Melissa Bauer, the Director of Sustainability for the Pet Sustainability Coalition. Melissa will provide a short presentation about the impact that your pet has on the environment and provide tips / tricks about how you can be more eco-friendly as a pet owner. We will also have a networking opportunity prior to the event. Then after the presentation, stick around for live music! Tentative Agenda: 2:30pm - 3:00pm - Open Networking 3:00pm - 4:00pm - Presentation 4:00pm - Live Music provided by BrewAbility Lab Attendees must RSVP and space is limited to first come, first serve. About the Presenter: Melissa Bauer is the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Sustainability Programs at the Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC). In this role she leads a multi-disciplinary consulting team serving 200+ pet companies on measurement and improvement strategies related to operations, supply chain management, employee and community engagement, communications, and more. She also serves as the organization's lead for PSC’s initiatives to move sustainability forward in the 103.6 billion dollar pet industry, focusing on packaging, sustainable ingredients, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Prior to her work at PSC, Melissa served as a Sustainability and Energy Consultant for the National Park Service through Hitachi Consulting. She also served as a program development manager for National Geographic, focused on large carnivore conservation in Namibia. She received a Masters in Sustainable Business Strategies from Duke University. About the Venue: BrewAbility Lab is an inclusive and accessible Brewery & Pizzeria that employs people with developmental disabilities. Attendees can enjoy a cold drink and some food before, during or after the event. There are options for alcohol and non-alcoholic drinks along with vegan and gluten free pizzas. There is something for everyone at BrewAbility Lab! BrewAbility also works to be sustainable by working with local, sustainable growers, using ingredients from their beer in the pizza and composting with a farm what cannot be used in the dough. They also provide reusable or compostable glassware. Please note: They are generously donating their location and ask that you support their cause by purchasing food or drink (not required, but encouraged). About Women in Sustainability Women in Sustainability is an inclusive nonprofit based in the U.S. that brings together women and allies who are passionate about sustainability. We provide a safe place for like-minded individuals to connect, learn, and collaborate in order to fight climate change and social injustice. Our overarching goals are to save the planet through advocacy, to create an inclusive community, and to educate others about sustainability in all industries. Accessibility: BrewAbility is a completely accessible venue for all and is ADA compliant in addition to: The menu is color-coded to match the handles on the taps so customers can order by size and then by color.The tap handles also have braille for those with visual impairments.Customers can utilize a braille menu and use sign language with their bartenders.Brewability Lab also keeps sensory items for customers and employees who need something tactile.We are currently working on the ability to provide an ASL interpreter for this event.
