MEDFORD, MA — An accomplished and widely commended member of the Medford Fire Department retired Tuesday after 42 years of service. Deputy Chief Brian Cronin has played many roles within the department, including serving as training captain, secretary of the Medford Firefighters Relief Association, member of the Honor Guard and an organizer of the annual Firefighters Memorial Sunday. Most recently, Cronin was the designated Infection Control Officer during the pandemic. "Brian's accolades and accomplishments are too many to name, but the public deserves to know of his enthusiasm and hard work," Medford Firefighters Local 1032 said in a statement. "He's received numerous commendations for actions performed during emergency situations." Cronin was featured in Patch's "Local Heroes" series at the height of the pandemic last spring. He was nominated by Local 1032 President Walter Buckley for "working tirelessly ensuring the health and welfare of Medford Firefighters during this pandemic." The fire department and city of Medford "owe Brian a debt of gratitude for his hard work, dedication and genuine love for the job," the union said.
