Story Today, King County Councilmember Jeanne Kohl-Welles has designated four local organizations that will receive retired Metro Transit Vanpool vans to provide transportation assistance to people with disabilities, low-income individuals, seniors, and young people. The allocation was approved by the King County Council with its passage of Motion 2021-0231, which allocated 37 vans across King County. "Every year, delivering 'retired' vans to organizations serving individuals in my district is an absolute pleasure," said Councilmember Jeanne Kohl-Welles. "The van retirement program creatively repurposes these vehicles and supports local groups that are doing important and often underappreciated work throughout King County." The organizations receiving vans this year are: Evergreen Treatment Services Low Income Housing Institute The Arc of King County Seattle's Union Gospel Mission The King County Vanpool program provides alternative mobility options for a diverse array of King County residents and reduces the need for single-occupancy vehicles.
