Former Quinnipiac Hockey Player Killed In Crash In Wisconsin

HAMDEN, CT — A former Quinnipiac University men's hockey player was killed in a crash in Wisconsin over the weekend. Matthew S. Froehlich, 40, of Minnesota, died in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 29 in the town of Frankfort, according to the Marathon County Sherriff's Office. The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. A woman was also seriously injured in the crash and hospitalized, according to officials. A man was also hospitalized with minor injuries and two children were also taken to the hospital, but they weren't injured, officials said. The crash remains under investigation. "The Marathon County Sheriff's Office extends our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Froehlich during this difficult time," officials wrote in a post on Facebook. Froehlich played for Quinnipiac from 2001-2005 and finished with 49 career goals. "We mourn the loss of Matt Froehlich '05," Quinnipiac Hockey Coach Rand Pecknold wrote in a post on Twitter. "Tragic car accident. Our thoughts are with Jillian and their two young children, Finn & Forest. Matt was a great player for Quinnipiac and an even better person."
