Free Rabies Clinic Brings Smiles To Dog Owners In Irvington

IRVINGTON, NJ — A dual "first" took place for Irvington pet owners and St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center during a recent rabies vaccination clinic in Essex County. Earlier this month, a crowd of eager pet owners gathered on a sunny Saturday in Civic Square Park to get their canine friends vaccinated at a free clinic (see photo gallery above). Dozens of dogs – of all shapes, sizes and breeds – received free rabies and distemper vaccinations at the event, which was hosted by the Madison-based nonprofit in partnership with the Irvington Health Department. Pet parents also went home with vouchers for free spay or neuter services and free toys for their pups. Story continues below The event was St. Hubert's first vaccination clinic since October 2019 – largely due to the lingering effects of the coronavirus pandemic. It was also the first such event the nonprofit has held in Irvington, where the shelter now provides animal control services and community programs. "It was wonderful working with the Irvington Health Department and township officials," said Sarah Sangree, St. Hubert's director of community engagement. "We're so excited to embark on this new partnership to serve the people and pets of Irvington," Sangree said.
