REDONDO BEACH, CA — Independence Day is just around the corner, meaning the Firecracker 5K race is returning to Redondo Beach this summer.
On July 3rd, runners will hit the bricks to participate in the annual 5-kilometer run/walk. While the race is set to being at 8 a.m., crews will begin closing streets around 4 a.m., the Redondo Beach Police Department said in a release.
Closures are expected to last until around noon.
The Esplanade and adjacent streets will be impacted by the race, which runs from Riviera Village to Veterans Park, according to the release. Drivers are encouraged to look for "no parking" signs and act accordingly, as vehicles parked along the race route will be towed.
Race participants have until midnight on Wednesday to register for the Firecracker 5k. All runners will receive a tee-shirt, and winners will receive cash prizes.
After the race is completed, awards will be handed out at Rock & Brews in Redondo Beach at 9:15 a.m. The restaurant will offer special pricing for race participants who bring their running bib.
