Mia Bonta Leads State Assembly Special Election

ALAMEDA, CA —With all precincts counted in a special election to fill the assembly seat vacated when Rob Bonta became state attorney general, his wife, Mia Bonta, leads by a large margin. According to the Alameda County Registrar of Voters, Mia Bonta has 37.62 percent of the vote, followed by Janani Ramachandran with 21.57 percent and Malia Vella with 16.5 percent. The winner must receive 50 percent of the votes. If no candidate receives 50 percent, a special general election will be held. Currently, the turnout is just 15.15 percent. Results will be certified by July 8. Tuesday's results could change as vote-by-mail ballots, provisional ballots and other ballots are counted.
