PHOENIX, AZ — A 77-year-old man was injured in a police shooting in midtown Phoenix Tuesday night, Phoenix police said.
The man suffered non-life-threatening injuries after he was shot by police as they responded to a burglary alarm at his home, near 7th and Turney Avenues, according to police.
No officers were injured in the shooting and charges against the homeowner are pending the result of the department's investigation, police said.
The shooting occurred around 10:15 p.m. after officers knocked on the home's door for several minutes and announced their presence. The man entered the front room of the house with a gun and did not comply with officers' commands to drop the weapon prior to the shooting, according to police.
The man then fired a shot out the door in the direction of the officers, before being hit by return fire from an officer, according to police.
