On-Call Line Handler – On-Call/Part Time We are currently seeking on-call, part time, days, nights and weekend team members to work at the South Portland, ME oil terminals, assisting in the docking operations of large oil tankers. This job is perfect for college students, retirees, merchant mariners and those looking for experience in the marine environmental field or if you are looking for some extra income and don’t mind working some on-call hours which could include nights and weekends. With the required qualifications, this position can also be a good training ground for other opportunities at US Ecology. Position Overview: To be able to work on a team of individuals assisting with line-handling operations for oil tanker ships along the South Portland Waterfront. Tasks would include but may not limited to; basic mooring line handling for large oil tankers, working outside in unfavorable conditions at times, assisting with “booming-in” and “booming-out” ships using a 20ft work boat, and at times light marine maintenance work on the water when needed. Normal ship Tie-Ups/Shifts/Sails pays double-time. (Work 2 hours, get paid for 4 hours) Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Ability to lift/carry up to 50lbs, occasionally work in unfavorable weather conditions, during daytime and nighttime hours, wear proper PPE for the job; Personal Flotation Device (PFD), steel toed boots, gloves, safety hard hat and safety glasses. (Responsible for providing steel toed boots) Ability to follow directions; read/speak and understand English; read and understand common danger placards / labels and hazardous warning literature including site safety plans. Must be able to understand and comply with company and client safety standards. Adequate completion of all job-specific, employee related US Ecology paperwork that could include Timesheets, Daily Work Reports, and Daily Tailgate Safety Meeting Forms. Minimum Qualifications and Experience: On the job training will be provided. Requires High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent reading, writing and reasoning skills) Marine experience, boat experience and current TWIC are preferred but are not required. Reliable means of transportation to and from the work site. Cell phone with texting capabilities. Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test and criminal background check, past employment verification, as well as being enrolled in a random drug testing program continuing throughout employment with US Ecology.
