Position Summary: The Landscape Technician has responsibility for the gardening and landscape care and maintenance of Girl Scouts multi-acre property, including the care of native, drought tolerant plants, landscaping utilizing water conservation methods and attracting and maintaining native wildlife ecosystem. Essential Responsibilities / Duties: - Maintain and perform scheduled lawn mowing, trimming, weeding, fertilizing and reseeding of lawn areas. - Prunes, hedges, shrubs and trees; cuts flowers; ensures application of fertilizer, pesticides, plant treatments, and other methods to maintain healthy plants. - Cut and prune trees to remove excess and control excess or diseased wood. - Lead all aspects related to the process of native plant propagation. - Water lawns, shrubs and ground cover using appropriate manual or automatic system. - Maintain irrigation system systems in efficient working order including but not limited to, irrigation repairs and adjustments and occasional irrigation valve repairs and maintenance. - Responsible for all aspects of day-to-day compost related operations. - Operate a variety of hand and power tools including, but not limited to, mowers, edgers, leaf blowers, hedge trimmers, chainsaw, shovels, brooms, wheelbarrows. - Operate a variety of vehicles including, but not limited to, small tractors, riding mowers and small utility vehicles. - Recognize, report and remove rodents, pests and diseases that may be harmful to plant and lawn areas. - Maintain landscape related tools and vehicles in safe and working condition. - Load, unload, move and carry landscape maintenance supplies and equipment. - Perform daily trash and debris pick up from landscaped area. - Assist property department and other departments as needed. - Performs additional duties as assigned to assist in fulfillment of the council's mission and goals. Requirements: - High school diploma required or equivalent work experience in gardening, landscape maintenance and / or college courses of study in botany, horticulture or related field. - Knowledge and skill to safely operate commonly used landscape maintenance equipment and tools, including hand and power tools. - Knowledge of California native plants, plant propagation and composting. - Ability to lift, push, pull up to 75 lbs., able to walk, stand, stoop and bend for long periods of time. - Ability to operate a variety of vehicles including small tractors, riding mowers and small utility vehicles and carts. - Must be able to work outside in varying temperatures and conditions. - Attention to details which is reflected in work and care of property landscaping. - Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with others. - Able to work well independently and as a member of the team. - Proficiency in basic computer skills, including Microsoft office suite and internet research - Regular and punctual attendance. - Valid drivers' license, proof of insurance and access to reliable transportation. Occasional driving may be required. - Must have belief in the mission and values of Girl Scouting; be willing to subscribe to the principles expressed in the Promise and Law, and aware of the needs of girls in our pluralistic society.
