Sweet Irene is a cute 15-month-old, 40#, floppy-eared mixed breed pup. She is our 21st foster dog and is one of the more playful ones. She pretty much acts like a big puppy. She likes toys and just hanging out with her people. She likes the kiddie pool a lot! From the time we got her home from the airport, she wriggled her way into our hearts. Irene is also a very good dog; She comes when called (usually), not a barker or a runner, potty trained, likes going for car rides and is protective in certain situations. Irene likes to go for walks and is good on leash. She has a limp due to a fused knee, which she was probably born with. Therefore, she would do great in a home with few stairs for her to navigate, and with someone who likes to take short walks a couple of times a day. Although she loves walks, she doesn't have the stamina to go on long ones. Something about this girl makes her special and she would be an amazing, loyal companion. This is Irene’s backstory from the shelter: “Irene was rescued from a small town in Baja Mexico. When her rescuers first saw her, she was a scared, skinny puppy with a terrible case of mange as she had no hair. They coaxed her with food and were able to get her in the car. From that moment on they could tell she was grateful for being rescued. Because she was sickly, had no hair and was not attractive, she probably never received any love, pets or attention. They couldn't even tell what color she was. As time went on and she became healthier, her colors began to show and now she is a beautiful brindle girl with glowing eyes. Irene was named after one of the Volunteers who rescued her. Irene gets along well with all dogs and loves to play with them. She is very vocal when she plays.” Before leaving Mexico, Irene was given a full medical assessment by a licensed veterinarian, was fully vaccinated and spayed. There is an adoption fee.
