Description
Join us for our July Potluck Social at the beautiful Governor's Western Residence. For July, we retun to one of our favorite locations. Please RSVP early to reserve your spot, as capacity is limited, and the group is private. Bring a covered dish to share (appetizer, side dish, or entree) and a serving utensil. Bring your own beverage. We'll enjoy appetizers and socialize for the first hour, then our potluck at this scenic location under a covered pavilion. Plates, cutlery, napkins and ice and cups are provided; just bring your dish and your beverage of choice; and $3 cash (correct change is appreciated) to help cover our venue and supply expenses. You may include a guest when you RSVP if you like. If you or your guest are unable to attend, please revise your RSVP on Eventbrite so others may attend. Guests contribute to the potluck as well as the fee. GorgeUS is a private monthly co-ed social event and potluck dinner for gays and lesbians in Western North Carolina. Our potluck socials are fun and varied events, and a great opportunity for visiting long-time friends, making new friends and having a great dinner too, all while strengthening our community. The group is guided by a volunteer steering committee. We appreciate your help, understanding and cooperation in following these simple common-sense rules. INVITATIONS AND RSVPs Our events are private, by invitation only for members and their guests, and not open to the public. Non-transferrable, invitations are sent prior to each social through Eventbrite. Once capacity is reached at a venue, registrations will end; so please register your RSVP promptly to avoid disappointment. See information about guests and inviting people to our group below. RSVP by using the link in the emailed invitation. Use the Eventbrite web site or Eventbrite app to manage your RSVP. This is necessary so we have an accurate head count, as some venues have limited capacity. An invitation doesn’t guarantee your spot; your RSVP will be confirmed by email. If demand for registrations exceeds the capacity of the venue, and you are slow to RSVP, you may not be allowed to register for the social. If your plans change and you are not attending, please change your RSVP on Eventbrite as soon as possible so that someone else can have your spot. Paper tickets or e-tickets are not required at this time, we will have a list of attendees at the door. Check in when you arrive. Eventbrite has a free mobile app that you might find useful for managing invites, directions, etc. If the weather is bad, check your email in case we have to cancel. It might be necessary to cancel or reschedule an event for other reasons as well. GUESTS AND NEW MEMBERS Each member may include up to two (2) guests (age 21+) in their RSVP to a social; enter the guest’s name(s) in the space provided when you RSVP. Invitations to events are non-transferrable, and limited to members and their invited guests. New members are introduced to the group by current members who bring them to an event, and sign up to join the group, which is free. Guests are expected to contribute to the potluck dinner. Members are responsible for their invited guests behavior. ATTENDING SOCIALS Most socials are on the second Tuesday of each month, seasonally. The first hour is social time; to mix, mingle, and converse while enjoying your drink and appetizers. The opening of the potluck line will be announced when it's time. The hours vary by venue at times; please check the invitation. Upon arrival, all attendees contribute a cash fee to cover hosting expenses including consumables (normally $3.00); exact change appreciated. Some venues require us to pay a fee, and we will adjust the charge to help cover the expense of the venue; please see the invitaiton for details. We use any overage amounts to help pay for our Holiday Party. Often our socials are in private homes. DO NOT ARRIVE EARLY at private home socials, as our host might still be making preparations. Please conduct yourself as a gracious guest, and help keep our host’s property clean, safe, and orderly. Pick up after yourself. Anyone who does not conduct themselves in an appropriate, respectful manner may be asked to leave, and may possibly not be invited to future events. Please help ensure everyone present at our socials feels included in the group. Avoid behavior that might be interpreted as cliquish. Name tags are provided at the door; please wear one so everyone can get to know you better. Cleaning up afterwards is fast when we all pitch in; we appreciate your help! We try to make things pleasant for our hosts so hopefully we’ll be invited back again. FOOD AND DRINK Each person, including guests, should bring a dish of adequate size to share with the group; usually either an appetizer, side dish, main entree, or dessert (special occasion menus may vary, see invitation). Please have your dish ready to serve with appropriate serving utensil and cover (i.e.: a pie cut into smaller slices with a pie server and some plastic wrap to cover the top). Some members bring hot foods in crock pots; there are usually outlets for that; but not always. Make sure your dish is OK to sit out for an hour or two, as there usually isn't an oven or refrigerator available. We furnish paper plates, eating utensils, napkins, ice and cups. Bring your personal beverage of choice, alcohol is allowed at most venues unless stated otherwise. Often there are two beverage areas; one for sharing, and one for private consumption. Please remember to take your food, drink, etc. with you when you leave, and dispose of empty wine bottles, containers, etc. If you brought your dish in a disposable container, then please dispose of it yourself, and remember to take your serving utensils and cooler, etc. Please don’t create unnecessary extra work for volunteers.
