The music group Rivers North headlines the Save Sweet’s Hill event at the Townsmen Club, in Mapleville, RI on July 25, 2021. The Burrillville Land Trust is in hot pursuit of the 150 acres known as Sweet’s Hill along East Avenue (Route 107) in Harrisville, Rhode Island. “This is the place to be on July 25th,” so says Paul Roselli, president of the non-profit, all volunteer Burrillville Land Trust. “You can attend country music and folk festivals for hundreds of dollars. But where can you go to hear this group play and get a chicken dinner to boot. No where except at this event,” Roselli The event takes place at the Townsmen Club, 66 Townsmen Way, Mapleville, RI. Tickets are $20 per person and includes live music by Rivers North, and a chicken dinner. Proceeds of the event go towards purchasing and stewarding the Sweet’s Hill property. Doors open at 3pm with dinner served at 4pm. Tickets are available here or at the Burrillville Farmers’ Market, Saturday July 3rd and 10th. A 50/50 raffle and lobster raffle also take place during the fundraising event. The chicken barbecue is the latest fundraising event for the land trust in the hopes of raising funds to purchase the property. Sweet’s Hill, located on Route 107 (East Avenue) in the Town of Burrillville is for sale and “will be developed if sold.” “Once the property is sold, it becomes off limits and locked up forever,” according to Roselli. The $2.2 million dollar campaign to Save Sweet’s Hill is for purchasing and stewarding the 150 acre property. “Our hope is to open the property for hikers to Black Hut and Spring Lake, to those who enjoy the quiet surroundings of our natural environment, and to those who long for a return to the New England bucolic charm of farms and small villages that encompassed this area long ago,” stated Roselli “ I volunteer to maintain our sense of place where all life flourishes.
