Wayland Offers Cooling Stations During Heat Wave

WAYLAND, MA — Wayland residents will have two town cooling centers available during a heat wave this week. Temperatures are set to get into the 90s over the first three days of the week. But adding humidity will make it feel like 100 degrees or more. Tuesday is forecast to be the hottest day with a heat index of about 103. Through July 1, Wayland will offer the public safety building, 38 Cochituate Road, as a cooling station between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily. However, the building is open 24/7. The Wayland Public Library will be open 1 to 8 p.m. each day this week as a cooling center. The National Weather Service early Monday morning issued a heat advisory for the region that expires Wednesday night. The heat index will be between 98 and 104 until then. "Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors," the advisory said. "Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances."
