Third Thursdays at the American Jazz Museum features a networking event, a cash bar, free museum admission, & live music later in the night The evening's schedule Starting at 5:30 pm in The Blue Room, the museum's part-exhibit, part-fully function jazz club, a networking event will be held featuring keynote speaker Crissy Dastrup. A cash bar will complement the event.5:30 pm -7:30 pm, the American Jazz Museum is free and open to the public.After the programs conclude by 7:30 pm, live music will follow behind the museum underneath the Jay McShann Pavilion. Get To Know Keynote Speaker Crissy Dastrup A keen business acumen combined with her social warrior heart is what makes Crissy Dastrup one of the most inspiring community leaders in the Kansas City Metro. In addition to her role since 2013 as principal of Dastrup Creative, a marketing & creative consulting firm, her significant, inclusive and all-encompassing contributions include: 2021 recipient of APWA’s Exceptional Performance Award in Diversity Co-founder of Troost Market Collective, leading the organization as Board Chair. This non-profit is working to bridge the Troost divide by convening artists, entrepreneurs and community members. Crissy developed Troostapalooza, an annual street festival that successfully brings together communities East and West of Troost, partnering with organizations across the city including UMKC, HyVee Arena, the City of KCMO among others. In addition to her “day job” there, she has used her platform, commitment to service, and leadership in this position to: Honor the lives lost to the pandemic in our Metro by leading the planning of the KC COVID-19 Memorial planting of 1665 white flags on the lawn of the National World War Memorial and Museum in January of 2021 Help establish the City and State's first LGBTQ Commission in December 2020 Bring issues of racial equity to the forefront with the KC Art on the Block Resolution in August 2020 With the aforementioned Resolution, Crissy then developed and lead the KC Art on the Block initiative, creating partnerships with the City of KCMO, the Urban League of Greater Kansas City, the NAACP KC Chapter, and Troost Market Collective. She developed and oversaw the largest Creative Placemaking project of its kind with six public street murals spanning 2,000 linear feet. In the short timeframe of June to September 2020 ,she was able to fully fund the project by securing monetary and in-kind donations while serving as project lead to source artists, a technical team through the AIA, over 1000 volunteers, supplies, and site locations. Her leadership brought the community together during a very difficult time for our nation and city, resulting in six installed public art pieces created by the community for the community. The magnitude of this initiative garnered national press with a positive spotlight on the heart and spirit of Kansas City. To fill the balance of each day’s 24 hours, Crissy also currently serves on the ArtsKC Marketing and Community Engagement Committee, the KC Economic Development Corporation's Advocacy Council, and as a Main Street Rail Transportation Development District Director and Board Secretary. Crissy is a wife and mother of four and has spent many years leading and serving her community. In October 2019 she was recognized as one of Kansas City’s 50 Most Powerful People by Kansas City Magazine. She’s a Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce Chamber Champ. She’s served in various capacities on the KC Ballet guild Board since 2010, as a Board Member for Académie Lafayette Public Charter School from 2016-2019 and she continues to tirelessly advocate for quality education for all kids. During her time stationed at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma while her husband was deployed, she won the Molly Pitcher Award for her leadership in the creation of the U.S. Army's first Field Artillery Museum as its Board Vice President.
