PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — With large swaths of the borough among the most "heat vulnerable" parts of New York City, Brooklynites will want to make a plan for staying cool during a heat wave that will descend on the city this week. The city is under a heat advisory until Tuesday at 8 p.m. as temperatures are expected to feel like 101 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. In Brooklyn, there are six community board districts classified with a Heat Vulnerability Index 5, or an area with the highest risk of heat injury or death. Four of the borough's community board districts fall under the Index 4 classification, the second-highest risk. To stay cool, New Yorkers should note nearby cooling centers, beaches, community pools, misting stations and other options, emergency officials warned Monday. Here's a list of where those spots are in Park Slope, which is not listed as heat vulnerable, but borders an Index 4 district: Cooling Centers: P.S. 77 Annex — 62 Park PlaceSeniors Only Cooling Center — 463A Seventh St. Outdoor Cooling Options: Washington Park: A spray shower, several drinking fountains and large swaths of "tree canopy" shade can be found in the park, which sits between Fourth and Fifth avenues and Fifth and Third streets.Park Slope Playground: A spray shower, two drinking fountains and large swaths of "tree canopy" shade can be found in the park, which sits between Lincoln and Berkeley Place and Fifth and Sixth avenues.
