NEW YORK CITY — The final New York City budget under Mayor Bill de Blasio's watch is coming down to the wire.
De Blasio promised a deal with City Council leaders will be struck and detailed Wednesday — the last day the city has to approve a budget.
"We've together been through eight budgets: this is the most important," he said. "This is the one that will determine the future of New York City and the strength of our recovery, and it has to be recovery for all of us."
The final dollar figure on de Blasio's so-called "recovery budget" has yet to be finalized.
In April, de Blasio presented a $98.6 billion proposed executive budget that drew heavily on federal stimulus funds. He argued the spending would be necessary to move the city beyond the coronavirus pandemic.
And de Blasio this week teased that many of his previous promises, such as universal free 3-K and community-based anti-violence measures, will be in the budget.
