ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — Several people have been arrested in connection with the fatal fire at the Evergreen Court Home for Adults. Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Walsh said he would hold a news conference at 3 p.m. to announce the arrests and provide an update on the investigation. One of those arrested is a village building inspector, The Journal News reported. The moves come on the heels of a raid on Spring Valley Village Hall when investigators executed search warrants Wednesday. SEE: Village Hall Raided In Investigation Of Fatal Nursing. NBC News4 said they heard from a source that investigators had sought the records because some village documents pertaining to the facility could be fraudulent. Two people died in the blaze, a firefighter and a resident. The volunteer firefighter was Spring Valley resident Jared Lloyd, honored just last week by Rockland County. The identity of the resident, Oliver Hueston, 79, was learned by TJN through the freedom of information law. The Evergreen Court Home for Adults was a massive three-story building at 65 Lafayette St. The assisted living facility, which housed 112 residents, was a converted hotel built in 1903. Firefighters and others told the Journal News in April that the assisted living home was commonly considered a death trap. Investigators into the cause of the fatal fire include the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, Office of Fire Prevention and Control, the Rockland County Sheriff's Office and the Spring Valley Police Department.
