Rhode Island's School Reopening Guidance To Be Announced June 30

PROVIDENCE, RI — Rhode Island's students, parents and teachers will have a better idea of what to expect in the coming school year after Wednesday morning. Gov. Dan McKee, along with the state departments of education and health, will outline policies that will be in place for the 2021-22 school year. The announcement will come at a press conference at 9 a.m. at the Providence Career and Technical Academy, one day of the July 1 timeline McKee previously predicted. Earlier this month, McKee said he anticipated a fully in-person return to classes in the fall, along with lifting the requirement that districts offer a distance learning option to students. Throughout summer vacation, the Department of Education and state officials will work to get as many students aged 12 and older vaccinated against COVID-19, he said, which will protect students as they return to classes in the fall.
