LAKEVILLE, MN — A Richfield man has been charged with second-degree murder in the June 22 shooting death of Cortney G. Henry. Atravius J. Weeks, 32, was arrested hours after Henry's body was found in a parking lot of a business in Lakeville. Henry had recently ended her relationship with Weeks before her death, authorities said. Weeks is being held in the Dakota County Jail on $2 million bail. If convicted, Weeks faces up to 40 years in prison. "My deepest sympathy is extended to the victim's family and friends for their great loss," Dakota County Attorney Kathy Keena said in a news release. "Ms. Henry's death was allegedly due to domestic violence." Just after 2:30 a.m. June 22, police responded to a call for a welfare check at 203rd Street and Icefall Trail, where they found a woman's body. Later that day, police found a car parked near an apartment complex, and inside were a bullet casing and blood, according to the criminal complaint. A woman — who was not Henry but identified Weeks as her ex-boyfriend — had called the police to the apartment because Weeks was pounding on the walls outside her building, according to the criminal complaint. Police were able to get ahold of Weeks by phone, and he agreed to meet them at the parking lot, authorities said. While walking toward the apartment parking lot, Weeks had a firearm, according to the criminal complaint. He complied with officers' commands to drop the weapon, police said. Weeks had a wound on his forehead, which he told police was from a self-inflicted gunshot, according to the criminal complaint. While treating the wound, Weeks told the officers that, "I just killed my best friend," police said. Weeks went on to say that he shot Cortney Henry seven times outside a business in Lakeville, according to the criminal complaint.
