GLENDORA, CA — Anyone hoping to celebrate the 4th of July with some amateur pyrotechnics in Glendora may face steep fines this holiday weekend. The Glendora Police Department is reminded residents that fireworks of any kind, including those considered "safe and sane," are illegal within the city. Anyone caught in possession or setting off fireworks could face a $1,000 fine and possibly held in jail for up to six months. "In recent years, fireworks have been one of the leading causes of injuries serious enough to require hospital emergency room treatment," city officials said in a statement. "Fireworks can result in severe burns, fractures or scars or even death or disfigurement that can last a lifetime." Officials recommend fireworks are best left to the professionals. Although there are no professional fireworks shows scheduled to occur in Glendora, several surrounding communities will hold their own including Altadena, Claremont and Monrovia.
