DISCOVERY BAY, CA — At least two Canada geese were reportedly exposed to petroleum oil in a spill Monday in Discovery Bay, the U.S. Coast Guard said.
Watchstanders with the Coast Guard's San Francisco sector were alerted around 10 a.m. Monday that approximately 400 gallons of petroleum oil spilled at Discovery Bay Yacht Harbor.
Coast Guard personnel responded alongside the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and Contra Costa County Fire Department and learned the cause of the spill reportedly came from a fuel line at the harbor.
The fuel line was shut off and Discovery Bay Yacht Harbor staff deployed boom and applied sorbent pads to the affected areas, the Coast Guard said in a news release.
The geese were recovered and taken to a rehabilitation facility as the Coast Guard's San Francisco Incident Management Division conducts an investigation into the spill.
