Press release from the University of Alabama:
June 29th, 2021
If you're planning to celebrate Independence Day with fireworks, be careful.
In 2019, at least 17 people died and about 10,000 were badly injured from fireworks-related incidents, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. An estimated 57% of the injuries were burns.
The safest way to enjoy a fireworks display is at a community-sanctioned event like the Fourth of July Celebration on the River at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater.
All fireworks, including sparklers, are illegal in many municipalities in Alabama including Tuscaloosa and Northport. However, if fireworks are legal where you live and you plan to use them, be sure to follow these important safety tips:
Remember, if you have an emergency, call 911.
Visit the National Safety Council's website for more information on how to safely enjoy fireworks this Fourth of July.
