TUSCALOOSA, AL — District 61 State Rep. Rodney Sullivan, a Republican from Northport, has announced he will not seek re-election in 2022 at the conclusion of his lone term in the Legislature. Sullivan, a former Northport city councilman who is less than a week shy of his 36th birthday, told constituents on social media Tuesday that he is at a point in his life with his two sons that he wants to be able to step away from politics to focus more on the different activities they are involved in. "To my wife Lacey, my boys Parker and Patton, I thank you and love you for allowing me to serve over the years," Sullivan said. "I appreciate your support, sacrifices and am excited about our next chapter in life. Again, I have enjoyed serving and have made some life long friends and I'm proud of the things we've done for our district." Sullivan was first elected to the Legislature in 2018, running on the Republican ticket and grabbing 65% of the vote. He currently serves as vice chair of the House Fiscal Responsibility Committee, along with being a committee member on the House County and Municipal Government Committee, Financial Services, Agriculture and Forestry and the Tuscaloosa County Legislation Committee. Prior to his time in Montgomery, Sullivan represented District 3 on the Northport City Council for two terms. House District 61 covers large portions of Tuscaloosa and Pickens counties.
